The roots of what is now Lipscomb & Cathey began shortly after World War II when company founder, Forrest Lipscomb, began working as a special agent with a large marine insurance company in New York. Having quickly established his reputation in the world of marine insurance, Forrest moved to Memphis at the request of a leading cotton merchant of that day to establish an insurance operation to meet the specialized insurance needs of the cotton industry. In 1960 Forrest moved to Dallas, at the time a large center for the cotton trade, and by the end of that decade he had created his own firm; Lipscomb Insurance Group, Inc.
Beginning in the early 1980’s the firm then began to expand its coverage offerings to match the increasing complexity of its clients' needs; growing to specialize in complex commercial risks, personal lines and health and benefits insurance solutions. It was also during this time of expansion that both Forrest’s sons, Jay and Charles, joined their father to continue building an independent insurance agency offering a full complement of insurance products and services to commercial and personal lines clients.
In November of 2009, Ronnie Cathey partnered with Lipscomb Insurance Group to form Lipscomb & Cathey. Prior to partnering with the Lipscomb’s, Ronnie spent fifteen years as a Director of both the Real Estate and Mergers & Acquisitions practices at one of the largest insurance brokerages in the world. The addition of Ronnie represents the continuation of the Lipscomb’s ambition to bring added capabilities to its current and prospective clients.
